Grenadiers Russes du Régiment Pavlovski des Guerres Napoléoniennes, 1805–1814

Revue de Figurines d’Italeri au 1/72

Grenadiers Russes du Régiment Pavlovski des Guerres Napoléoniennes, 1805–1814, 1/72 Figurines Italeri 6006

Italeri figurines are cast in a silver plastic, giving them the appearance of metal miniatures. Anyone playing avec unpainted soldiers will appreciate the fact that these figurines are compatible avec eachother; colours et sizes match, et soldiers may serve in mixed units.

The Pavlovski regiment was formed en 1790 from elements of other infantry units. Les grenadiers portent des mitres d’origine prussien anciennes avec metal front which was replaced by the new Kiwer shako en 1805. However, the new shakos did not reach many frontline units until much later, et the Pavlovski regiment was still wearing les mitres anciennes as late as 1807, at the battle of Friedland. In recognition of its heroic fight at Friedland, the regiment was permitted to wear les mitres originales as a distinction henceforth. Pavlovksi was the only unit to retain these caps. The material was replaced occasionally, but the original metal fronts were worn on parade as late as 1914, et they were kept in historic condition, including bullet holes et other damage incurred at Friedland.

Pavlovski se distinguait de nouveau pendant la campagne de 1812, et it was elevated to guard status en 1813, becoming le Régiment Garde du Corps Pavlovksi.

The Italeri figurines do justice to a famous guard regiment. The grenadiers are beautifully sculpted, full of detail et nicely posed in historically et anatomically correct positions.

Évaluation

  • Beautifully detailed figurines, avec turnbacks, cuffs, belts, buttons, mitres, and metal fittings on weapons et equipment that are a delight to paint.
  • Striking faces are distinctly russe looking.
  • Mitres de grenadiers may be used in conversions des grenadiers prussiens, hessois et brunswickois du 18e siècle.
  • Historic poses are very compatible avec eachother, allowing the joueur de guerre to recruit realistic looking bataillons et regiments.
  • Officiers et sous-officiers are well designed et exotically armed.
  • Good casting quality, except for the chargeant et marching grenadiers which are damaged by moulding mistakes. Both figurines need to be cleaned up avec the scalpel, removing excessive flash around the pack et along the arms. The mistakes are less obvious if the figurines are painted after clean-up.
  • The grenadiers are not wearing the rolled greatcoat over the left shoulder, which was so typical of Infanterie Russe in this period. A grave omission. Le Shinel was very popular avec les soldats russes et they often portaient it in place of the tightfitting uniform jacket. In warm weather, the coat was rolled up et slung across the shoulder, providing extra protection against sabre cuts.
  • L’havre-sac russe had a horizontal strap connecting les deux pattes d’épaules across the soldier’s chest. The strap has been omitted on these figurines.
  • The hair was cut short en 1806, but the figurines still wear a short pigtail.
  • Le porte-drapeau is missing. Luckily, one of the sergents peut être convertie pour cette rôle. Flags may be cut from paper et attached to 0.6 mm pianowire poles.
  • La figurine tirant debout aims into the sky. The mistake may be corrected by reducing the base thickness underneath the figurine’s front foot, bringing the musket back into an almost horizontal position. The figurine will lean forward a little, but it looks more realistic.
  • The drum appears a little small.

Emploi Historique

  • Line Grenadiers 1805
  • Pavlovski Grenadiers 1805-1812
  • Life Guard Pavlovski Regiment 1813-1814
  • The figurines may be used as Musketiers, Grenadiers et Jägers of the line, if la mitre is replaced par un shako Kiwer (Grenadiers Russes, ESCI). However, since the rolled greatcoat was worn in these units as well, any such conversion is not entirely accurate.

Italeri deserves praise for launching a new Napoleonic theme. L’armée russe des Guerres Napoléoniennes is very popular among collectionistes et joueurs de guerre, et it would be very exciting if Italeri were to launch additional figurines for the 1812 et 1813 campaigns, like dragons ou artillerie à cheval wearing the typical casque de cavalerie russe.
