Légion Romaine XIII Gemina
Apulum (Alba Julia)

Légionnaires et auxilia of legio XIII Gemina during the Roman encampment at Aalen. The shields of the two legionnaires are not identical, only one carries the unit inscription: LEG - XIII. Marching behind the legionnaires sont des archers syriens who served as auxiliary troops of legio XIII Gemina. Les Syriens peuvent être distinguer d’autres archers serving in the formation by their long tunics et conical helmets. In the course of the battle reenactment at Aalen, heavy infantry of all participating legions staged a mock assault against the archers shown here who defended themselves avec impressive volleys of blunted training arrows.
